RUN UP A MOUNTAIN
Runner’s World, UK, March 2008
One hundred miles-you’ll never manage that, right? WRONG.
Yes, you’ll have cover 100 miles. And yes, this will include testing climbs and descents on tracks that a mountain goat might pooh-pooh. But – and this is the joy of this event – the race is broken up to five manageable stages of 24-20-26-13-17 miles. Think Tour de France on foot. There are no time constraints, so as long as you have a descent running history – including a marathon or two – you’ll be tickety – boo. You’ll transverse vast tea gardens, isolated jungle & small villages, passing Yaks and Red Pandas along the way. On days two and three, you’ll take in Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Kanchenjunga – four of the world’s five highest peaks.
