Race Organization

Himalayan Run & Trek has been a pioneer in Asia and around the world for eco-friendly adventure sport tourism. Its flagship event, the Himalayan 100 Mile Stage Race, has been held successfully since 1991. This event has been described as “The Most Spectacular Running Course in the World”, “The World’s Most Well-Organized and Synchronized Event” and “World’s Most Scenic and Challenging Endurance Race”. It also has a very high an “AAA” rating for its eco-friendly approach for the excellent ground support.

This event has no age bar or stage cutoff time. The youngest participant to participate in this event was a 10-year-old student, while the oldest participant was 81 years old. Anyone physically fit and interested can run & walk. There is no qualifying time constraint, so no need to worry about your running history. The aim of this event is not to win, but to enjoy the beauty of nature. While running, you will traverse through vast tea gardens, isolated jungles and small villages with passing yaks and red pandas along the way. You are guaranteed to have an unforgettable experience.

Daily stages are 24, 20, 26, 13, and 17 miles for the Himalayan 100 Mile Stage Race, and 22, 16, 22, 21, and 19 km for the Himalayan 100 K Stage Race. The routes are mostly on trails with views of Mt. Everest, Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Lhotse, and mountains in four countries. All food, lodging, aid stations, and transportation are provided by the Race Directorate Office.

Our sheer determination, untiring enthusiasm, and sympathetic attitude towards the world have long been admired by adventure lovers. We are connected by common goals to challenge our limits and break all physical, mental, and psychological barriers, showing the world that nothing is impossible if our will is strong enough. If it is, the world is ours.

Himalayan Run & Trek has always respected the spirit of our dedicated participants. That spirit has motivated us to continue our efforts for the last 45 years. Some of our legendary participants include Mr. Mike Nuttall from the USA (63 years old), who has undergone triple bypass heart surgery and successfully completed HSR Events; Mr. Shane James from Australia, suffering from Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS), a very rare, painful, and debilitating disease, also has successfully completed HSR Events; and Mr. Richard Hope from Australia, a left arm amputee, has successfully completed HSR Events. These athletes send the message that it is possible to go beyond the edges of pain and agony and touch our hearts with their smiles and their spirit. Other participants include several members of the World Team from the USA with physical disabilities, and Mr. Shiv from India, who is partially blind.
